Commonwealth essay draft 1

The Environment: Our Future

Global warming is the main climate change happening in the world. It has affected everyone by one way or another. Occasionally we are reminded of the impacts of global warming. For example glaciers on mountains are melting, icecaps melting and causing a rise in sea level, or animals that are going to be extinct, if we do not try to stop this epidemic, such as Polar bears.

We need to know about what’s causing Global warming and its effects before we even try to counter this problem.

Global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect has been around for hundreds of years, in fact without it, the earth would be uninhabitable it is just that because of industrialization, it is enhanced. It is caused by an excess amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases are: Water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and ozone. These gases in small quantities are harmless, but in huge quantities, they do damaging effects to our ozone layer.

Why is the ozone so important? Without it we would not be able to live on this planet. It protects us from harmful UV-rays and ensures that greenhouse gases and other gases do not escape the earth too easily. This can be an advantage and a disadvantage. If the gases were to escape, the temperature of the earth would be freezing. And if theses greenhouse gases are not able to escape, they also prevent heat from escaping, causing the greenhouse effect. Chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs are the main reason of the ozone depleting. When the ozone is depleted, more and more harmful UV-rays will enter Earth causing many problems, like skin cancer.

Global warming, which is closely associated to industrialization, pollution and the use of fossil fuels, is causing many problems. Thankfully, many countries are starting to show concern for the environment. Many activities have been held to try raise the awareness of global warming and to raise funds to stop it. But is it too little too late?

Natural disasters and climate change have caused many loses both economically and physically. It is the development of our countries that is causing the problem, so what should we do? Many philosophers have given approximates of when the world will come to an end but can we extend it? It is all up too us.

There are many ways to slow down or stop this epidemic. But many people are stumped on what to do. Even simple things like throwing away our rubbish in to recycling bins would have great impact in stopping this situation. Too stop global warming, we must make many sacrifices. Everyone has to work together and do their part in this global campaign for this to work. Here are some ways to help out.

Whenever you go to supermarkets to buy your groceries, bring your own reusable bags instead of using plastic bags. These bags are not biodegradable and will cause harm to our environment if burned.

Save electrical energy by switching off lights and fans once you leave the room even for five minutes. Electricity is mainly produced by burning fossil fuels, therefore is we cut down on our energy usage, lesser fossil fuels will be needed. Another way to reduce our electrical usage is to use energy saving light bulbs or air-cons instead of the conventional ones. They save a lot of energy and a positive that anyone would want is that our electrical bills would be lower.

Another way is to drive less. Cars use petrol which is refined from crude oil this is also running out. Older cars also give out large amounts of carbon monoxide which is harmful.
If you have to drive, drive a diesel. They have better mileage and save our resources. You can also get a hybrid or an electrical car they hardly use any fuel and can even run without fuel. Electrical cars also do not give out any gases at all. Another alternative is to drive a car which can run on compressed natural gas (CNG), it only gives out water and also is cheaper to refuel and has better mileage than petrol cars.

You can reduce your waste by not buying so many packaged products. This will reduce the amount of waste we produce. You should also recycle your waste, such as paper products and water. These actions will save the amount of resources we use and in the long run save our money. Reduce your waste by not buying so many packaged products. This will reduce the amount of waste we produce. Reuse your things such as water you used to wash your plates can be used to water the plants.

These few tips can help to save the earth. We are all responsible for the damage and we should all be doing our part to repair it. It is not very hard to do our part, but it is very important to do so. The environment is ours to share and for our future generations but are we sure that there will be a future for our future generations? It’s our future not anyone else’s so it is our responsibility to take care of it and cherish it. So please help do your part and the environment will thank you for it.

I agree with yufan, there is totally no feeling in the passage. It is educational, but u need to express yourself more in ur writing.

Oh yeah i forgot to say. When u write a compo, u should try not to write as if ur giving a presentation. Point by point by point.. IT bores the reader.

Just my opinion :)

Well I must say that those who attempt this topic are competing with professional writers out there to convince us to change our lifestyle and be responsible for our mother Earth.

So, Philip, you are confronted with this expository task to inform and persuade. Have you taken into consideration for your target audience when you write?

Author's voice is critical, your readers know if you are sincere!

Find your own voice soon!

By then, you will enjoy writing, and own your own voice!

I look forward to that day!

I guess, READING more is the best antidote to remediate this situation of yours.

Take heart, you have a constant pool of readers, eventhough they are out there ready to make comments.. this shows that they are really reading your work!
